The 30th Y. Kumar Memorial Assembly for Peace and International Understanding was held on 9th February, 2009 at Springdales Pusa Road. The programme is dedicated to the Founder- Manager of the school. The Memorial Lecture was delivered by Shri B.G. Verghese- Chairman Sarvodaya International Trust, New Delhi Chapter and an eminent journalist. He spoke passionately about the need for a dialogue on the Indian traditions of multiculturalism and plurality in their true sense in order to overcome the conflict and turmoil that appear to permeate society. The programme also included a presentation – ‘ One Vision, One World’, a song by the choir and a round- up of the activities conducted as a part of the contest. In her welcome address, the School Principal Mrs. Ameeta Mulla Wattal outlined how the award came to connect the ideas of peace and internationalism with the power and vitality of the youth, who would inherit the future. The prizes of the Y. Kumar Student Award and the Painting Festival were also given out on the occasion. The Trophy for Overall Excellence was secured by Nooreen Sarna of Sanskriti and Sara Chatterjee of Vasant Valley School received the Panels commendation for a performance of a high quality. The prize winners in different categories were – for the best essay- Digveer De and Mark Robinson of Springdales School, Pusa Road; for the highest quiz score- Prateek Vijayvargia of New Era; for the best performance in the group discussion- Chirag Jain of St. Columbas; and Deyvaansh Misra of Blubells School International and Jahanara Rabia Raza of Springdales Dhaula Kuan were awarded for their performance in the interview.
