A three day Annual Summer Staff Seminar on the theme'Ushering Change into the Classroom' was organized from 29th June to 1st July, 2010 at Springdales School Pusa Road. The theme was decided upon in the context of the recent reforms in the field of education which have brought in momentous change within schools and the classroom as well as to reflect on the various dimensions that impact the teaching- learning process, be it through ICT, media, travel or the issues of environment, economic and social pressures or the very individual concerns of a child- who forms the core of the entire exercise.The focus of the discussions was to understand all the aspects of the interconnectedness- advances in government policy, social environment and pedagogy.The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Dinesh Singh- Director University of Delhi South Campus who made a powerful comment on the meaning and need for change.During the three day seminar the teachers were addressed on a range of themes and topics from the training in subject areas to the varied concerns of the teachers.On the first day, Ms. Shefali Ray, ELT Oxford Press conducted a training session Building a Sound Language Base (English) while Mr. Avik Chatterji, Executive Coach, conducted a session on Learning through Drama.Dr. Ameeta Parsuram, Reader, Department of Psychology, University of Delhi and Mr. Nirmalya Samanta, Associate Professor, University of Delhi were the resource person for the session on Adolescent Mental Health and Media as a force in Education respectively.On 30 June, The issue of Adapting to Change was delved into by Mrs. Radhika Suri.Education Mentor, INSPIRE and Ms. Purnima Datt, HECS, INTACH trained the staff on Bringing Heritage into the Classroom.Mr. Rahul Ram,Indian Ocean,emphasized the need for Celebrating Learning in his presentation. The Creative Maths was made relevant by Mr. Shaji from Jodo Gyan. Mrs Merry Barua discussed The Role of the Teacher in an Inclusive Classroom and Ms. Rittika Chanda Parruck provided a lesson on Computer Aided Learning The Role of Experiential Learning in developing the Thought Process was the theme for Brig. Trigunesh Mukherji’s(Director& Co-Founder,Inme Learning) activity based session on 1st July. Sessions were also facilitated by school principals- Mrs. Ameeta Mulla Wattal and Dr. Jyoti Bose on Art and Music as a Learning Media and the Synergy of Aesthetics in the classroom. Mrs.Anita Luthra, Academic Supervisortook up a dialogue on CCE: A Changing Classroom and Mrs. Sujata Maleyvar, Head Mistress talked about Unlocking the Key to learning. A session on the use of Physical Education Cards (PEC) by staff members Jyoti Kaul and Jyoti Paul. The seminar concluded with an address by the Chairperson Springdales Education Society, Mrs. Rajni Kumar.The sessions were very interactive and provided the teachers with a fruitful and meaningful learning opportunity.

The Valedictory Function of the Africa Week was held at Springdales School, Pusa Road on 19 July, 2010 to coincide with the 92nd Birthday Celebrations of Dr. Nelson Mandela. Dignitaries gracing the occasion included Mr. Momovou Jang Jalook,Deputy High Commisioner, Gambia; Col. Bruiners, Defence Advisor, South African High Commission; Mr. Orlando Lima,Counselor, Embassy of Angola; Mrs. Lapo Logang Gakepina’ First secretary, High Commission of Botswana and the Chairperson of Springdales Education Society, Dr. Rajni Kumar.The Principal Mrs. Ameeta Mulla Wattal in her welcome address referred to the shared past of India and the countries of Africa and strengthening of Indo- African ties.The Guests commended the efforts of the school in promoting goodwill between India and Africa since its very inception. A cultural programme was put up by the students to mark the occasion.It included a musical tribute to Mandela and O Africa,a presentation titled-‘It is in your hands now’.The programme concluded with a delightful dance presentation on Waka Waka:It’s the time for Africa.The Lakshmi Seshadri English Language Scholarship and the Lakshmi Seshadri Memorial Inter- House Running Trophy were also presented at the event.

The Holiday Homework Exhibition and Book Fair was held on 24th and 25th July 2010 at the school grounds in Springdales School,Pusa Road.It was inaugurated by the chairperson, Springdales Education Society, Dr. Rajni Kumar.The theme for this year’s book week was 'Ushering change into the classroom'. During the book week,each class made boards on various aspects of the theme. Book week is an annual feature which culminates with the exhibition and book fair.Various publishers set up their stalls and students are encouraged to buy and read books.
